1. What is an implant?

Implant is a titanium bolt mounted to a jaw bone during surgery It plays the same role as a tooth root. Implant is a basis for mounting a crown, which is matched with the neighbouring teeth by shape and colour, by means of a joint In short – implant is a substitute of natural tooth root

2. What kind of implants are applied in Dentim clinic?

90% of the applied implants in Dentim clinic are NanoTite™ made by American company Biomet 3i. The implants are made of titanium, they are applied by surgery directly to the jaw bone with local anaesthesia. The size of implant is compared to the height of  20 groszy  coin.

The surgery can be performed immediately after tooth removal. Implants 3i are manufactured of a special type of the highest  purity  titanium  has been used successfully in orthopaedics for decades.

Human body accepts titanium as its own tissue so that bone accretes directly on the implant and treats it as a natural tooth root. Titanium is known for not triggering any allergic and alien body reactions in human body. Titanium implant is protected at all times by the so called inactive external layer located on the surface of the implant, thanks to which it is described as biological tooth denture.

3. Why NanoTite implants are so extraordinary?

The implants with OSSEOTITE® by BIOMET 3i are applied in clinical conditions for over ten years, as long as the conducted research proving its efficiency. As  treatment protocols  are becoming more and more advanced,  dental implants are applied in more and more demanding clinical cases, the company introduced  new surface layer NanoTite. It provides greater speed and scope of osteointegration and simultaneously enhances predictability of the treatment results. This is a list of possible situations in which application of such an implant can be advantageous both for patient and a doctor:

•  protocols  of immediate and accelerated  weight-bearing

• immediate application of  implants in tooth sockets after  extraction ,

•  performing surgery of implanting with simultaneous bone tissue graft

• settlement of  implants in the crucial areas for aesthetic, where bone preservation has key importance,

•  inserting   implants in the poor quality bone

• engrafting  implants in the places requiring  application of short or wide implants.

Implants generally feature fair stability at the moment of settlement – this is stability which is generated by  effect of  mechanic nature. As remodelling of bones advances in subsequent weeks the stability of implant can deteriorate and this in turn can cause  worsening the treatment results in case of early or immediate  weight-bearing  protocols application   The NanoTite surface was created as a result of research of such implant surface which application allows to achieve more intensive osteointegration in early phases of treatment- utilising of such surfaces can enable achieving  Socket Seal Surgery  (SSS™) of the implant, thanks to which it will be less malleable for failures in the early stages of treatment.

4. What are advantages do  dental implants?

Do you know that the health of oral cavity has the greatest impact on the overall condition? Replacing gaps in dentition with implants and their crowns will allow you enjoy life as if have never had dentition gaps. If implantological treatment is over you should be able to bite, chew and enjoy social life and never experience the negative impressions accompanying having gaps in dentition.

Implant and its crown will help you minimise the amount of the lost bone which declines as a result of dentition gaps. Preservation of bone can hinder from losing healthy teeth and will allow for keeping natural face features. In comparison to the other possibilities of dentition gaps treatment such as – bridges, partial or  fixed  denture – implant and its crown provides long term prosthetic solutions, they reduce the necessity of grinding the neighbouring natural teeth and restore function and aesthetics if natural dentition.

5. What are the main advantages of implants?

• They limit possibility of damage of neighbouring sound teeth

• They are more reliable than conventional methods i.e.  casting partials  or  tissue borne  denture

• They increase possibility of eating varied food influencing positively our digestive system and diet.

• The absolutely look and feel like natural teeth

• They are stable, increasing our psychical comfort

•  They do not require using any glues

• In time perspective this solutions is more economical

• No more uncertainty and embarrassment in situations related to loosening a denture!

6. How does nanotechnology serve implants?

Thanks to the applied nanotechnology solutions implant sets with bone quicker and is more stable as early as in the initial phase of healing enabling quicker  embedding  crowns even in case of extensive gaps. Moreover, the special, patented surface makes the healing process shrinks even up to two months. This also facilitates their application in cases when bone tissue graft becomes necessary or  inserting  an implant into poor quality bone.  NanoTite ™  implants were created as a result of research of such implant surface which application allows for quicker setting with bone in early phases of treatment    It enables quicker and more durable stabilisation.

7. What is the average time of  engrafting  one implant?

Setting up one implant lasts on the average 15 minutes and is carried out with local anaesthesia A patient can function as usual right on the next day. Pain is generally managed by means of traditional painkillers.

8. Who should not have implants?

Contraindications in implants application are mainly local e.g.: osteoporosis in advanced phase or cancer. It is also not recommended to engraft implants with patients with serious heart and respiratory failure,   leukaemia,   blood clotting   disorders   and   mental illness

9. Are there any age limitations in implants application?

There are no upper age constraints in implants application. There are such limitations in case of young patients. It is assumed that patients under 18 years old at which growth bones is not completed.

10. Does engrafting an implant hurt?

Engrafting and implant is performed with local anaesthesia. The surgery is compared to single root tooth extraction and does not require full anaesthesia. Having completed the operation dentist often prescribes antibiotic therapy which is supposed to prevent infection. A gum can be swollen for 2-3 days and bruised and pain is comparable to suffering from a hit. To soothe the pain it is recommended to use traditional painkillers. It is necessary to avoid physical efforts and rapid head movements during the first week after the surgery.

11. Which method of implantation should be chosen – one or two phase one?

One phase method consists in engrafting an implant and replacing prosthetic crown during the one appointment. However it is recommended to decide upon two phase treatment lasting from 2 to 4 months  It is a period in which much better integration of implant with bone occurs, the process is called osteointegration. Two phase procedure is much better predictable.

12. Can any cavities and gaps be replaced by implants?

One local constraint is the condition of bones of alveolar of lower and upper jaw, that is places in which the engrafts are placed. Conducting surgery depends in great extent on the condition if upper and lower jaw bone     In this case it is necessary to conduct full diagnostics in order to determine condition and quality of bones. In case of shortage of bone tissue we perform its reconstruction surgeries.

13. How to care for implants?

We take care of implants with the same dedication and regularity as it is in the case of natural teeth.

It is necessary to brush them daily, use dental thread and mouth rinse liquids. Regular appointments at the dentists is also necessary. One of the additional requirement is using irrigator for teeth which removes plaque and gives gums massage.

14. Are there any post surgery complications possible?

One of the most serious complication after an implant application can be the lack of osteointegration that is the lack of anastomosis if the implant and a bone. That it is necessary to conduct the surgery again. In extreme cases it may be necessary to resign from the implant based fixed denture for removable one.

15. What is the price of the surgery?

The simplest form of anodontia reconstruction on implants is acrylic denture stabilised on 2 implants.

The cost of inlay starts from 11,000zł. Top quality replacements mounted on 8 or more implants with ceramic crowns can cost even over 50,000zł Between these two extreme solutions there are many intermediary ones, thus treatment schedule is arranged always individually with a patient.

16. Can a patient with occlusal abnormality also undergo anodontia reconstruction?

Occlusal abnormality results from teeth contacting with one another. Anodontia is a condition at which there is no dentition. So the question should be modified.

>> up

17. Can implants by engrafted with people with occlusal abnormalities?

Yes, but it is necessary to level teeth by means of orthodontic treatment or prosthodontics treatment (crowns, ceramic veneers)

18. Shall we show up for check-up after the surgery?

What is the cost of such checkups? Implantological patient must attend check-up appointment one a half a year. Check-up  costs 60-400 zł depending on whether it is necessary to take X-ray picture or removing tartar layers and sanding. Check-up appointments are very important for longevity of implants and keeping may years guarantee.

19. Do rejections of the implants occur and if they do what should patient do in that case?

If an implant rejection occurs, and it happens on the average at 1% of patients, it is necessary to engraft the implant again in the same place. If the rejection repeats treatment plan verification is advised.

20. What should I know about bone atrophy? What are the consequences of the atrophy?

If you have any gaps in dentition than you belong to the group of people with raised level of risk of alveolar atrophy  Ask your dentist today about the possibility of holding bone atrophy or regeneration of the bone which already vanished.

Treatment of the bone consists in filling the post extraction socket with graft  material and securing it with collagen protective layer. Collagen protection – the membrane functions as barrier preventing ingrown epithelial cells into tissue being reconstructed. The bone graft material stimulates the development of new bone, which fills the empty cavity and by the same token rebuilds alveolar  As the new bone develops the graft material becomes uptaken  This process can last from 6 to 12 months. The consequences of bone atrophy can lead to early loss of healthy teeth and cause deformations of facial features (cheeks collapse, strong wrinkles around mouth) Prevention against bone atrophy allows to preserve natural facial features.

Neglected and progressing bone atrophy can lead to the loss of further teeth and can increase the risk of breaking bones of upper and lower jaw.
